For beauty salons

A card for brows, waxing and the regular who never misses a month

Beauty regulars return on a cycle: brows every four weeks, waxing every five or six, a facial each season. A stamp card on their mobile, counted per visit, rewards the client who keeps the cycle going and brings all of it to one salon. Counter Club also lets you tell the club when a quiet week needs filling.

What gets in the way for beauty salons

Every service has its own rhythm

Brows come round every four weeks and a facial every three months. One card has to cover both, so count visits rather than services and let the most frequent client fill it fastest.

Clients split their services

A client has her brows done with you and her waxing somewhere cheaper. A card that stamps every paid visit, whatever the service, is a reason to bring both to the same salon.

Gaps in the book

A cancellation or a slow week leaves a treatment room idle. A text to the club on Local Favourite, sent that morning, offers the time to people who already like the salon.

A worked example

Beauty salon work, with Counter Club

Quince and Clover Beauty is a fictional two-room salon above a newsagency. Its typical regular books a $45 brow shape and tint every four weeks: thirteen visits and $585 a year, before any waxing. The owner sets the card at 8 stamps, one per paid visit, and writes the reward as "a free brow shape and tint". A monthly brow client fills the card in about seven months, so the reward costs the salon fewer than two short appointments a year.

The QR card sits on the reception counter where clients pay, with the rule printed under it. In six weeks 95 clients join and the salon moves to Regulars. In late October the owner emails the 60 members who confirmed an address: "Summer waxing books up fast. Legs and bikini together are $15 off for the whole of November." Twelve book that week, and three of them are brow regulars who had never had a wax at this salon.

Questions from beauty salons

Should a quick brow tidy count the same as a facial?

Per visit is the simplest rule, and it rewards the client who comes most often, which is the point of the card. If a very short service bothers you, set a minimum, such as any visit over $30, and put it on the sign.

Can the reward be a product instead of a treatment?

Yes. The reward is a line of text you write, up to 200 characters. A treatment usually costs the salon less than a product it bought in, but either works if the client would be glad to receive it.

Do clients have to give an email address?

No. Joining needs only an Australian mobile, confirmed by a texted code. A first name and an email are optional. Email campaigns reach only the members who gave an address and confirmed it; text campaigns on Local Favourite reach every member who has not opted out.

Put the QR by the till this week

Setting the card takes two minutes. The first fifty members are free, paid for by a marketing consent instead of a card, and the card runs in full from day one.
